For children 4 through 8 years old, Rhythm Kids® by Music Together is the music and movement program where children explore rhythm through drumming, singing, and dancing to a combination of Music Together® songs specifically adapted for their age and new music inspired from around the world.
Taught in two levels (Level 1 for 4 and 5 year-olds and Level 2 for kids 6 through 8), Rhythm Kids® completes the early childhood music development path. Children learn to drum, sing, move to new rhythms, work in ensembles, conduct, and improvise. Through dynamic music games and activities, they develop skills like recognizing and playing patterns and soloing, they develop timing, coordination, listening skills and self-expression, and they build self-confidence and social abilities.
In each weekly class, your child will drum, sing, move, and play to rhythms inspired by musical traditions around the world, from West African Gahu, to Japanese Taiko, to Brazilian Samba, to name a few. As they learn to think and create like a musician, they’ll also gain valuable skills they’ll take to the elementary school classroom (and beyond!): confidence, focus, leadership, cognitive flexibility, and more. By the end of the semester, your child will be eager to show off what they’ve learned!
Caregiver attendance is welcome but not required for this age group. Caregivers of Level 1 students should be there on the first day of the semester to assess their child's level of comfort and to ensure they are comfortable attending the class without their caregiver. Each student receives a Rhythm Kids® songbook, CD, downloads, and access to interactive online video drumming tutorials, so that the entire family can continue the fun and learning at home, and parents can stay connected to what their child is learning in class.
